Results:
A total of 29 recipients had biliary complications, of which 19 had a surgical repair. The five
recipients, operated on for a stricture without history of leaks, did not develop further complications. However, nine of 14 with a history of a leak developed further complications after surgical repair (p-value = 0.044). All five who presented with a biliary complication more than 100 d after transplant had successful surgical repair; however, nine out of 13 who presented within 57 d had additional complications after repair.
Conclusions:
Operations for strictures after ALDLT are more successful than operations for leaks. Recipients with isolated biliary strictures after ALDLT can be managed surgically; however, recipients with history of a leak often require additional 4-Hydroxytamoxifen mouse interventions after surgical repair.”

Whereas the goal of the conventional nucleofractis technique is complete fragmentation of the lens, the technique aims to separate the endonuclear core from the epinucleus. This is done in 3 steps: circumferential disassembly, decreasing the central nucleus volume, and conquering the remnant. The technique offers safer and more effective phacoemulsification in patients with hard nucleus cataracts.”
“A fine-focusing VX770 x-ray source has been
constructed employing a field electron emitter prepared by growing carbon-nanofibers (CNFs) on a metal tip. The x-ray source is composed of a CNF field electron emitter, an electrostatic lens, two magnetic lenses, and a W-target for generating x-rays by electron impact. The CNFs provided field electrons with a current density of J similar to 5 X 10(9) A/m(2), which was evaluated with the
aid of Fowler-Nordheim theory. The electron beam extracted from the CNF emitter was accelerated to the energies of E=10-25 keV, and then focused by the lenses. By recording the x-ray images of test charts, the optimum resolution of the x-ray source was estimated to be approximately D(x)=0.5 mu m. (C) 2010 American Institute of Physics. “Objective:
To describe the characteristics of metabolic control and beta-cell function in the long-term follow-up of patients with type-1 diabetes (T1D) who have undergone pancreas and kidney transplantation (PKTx).
Patients and methods:
Twelve patients (eight males/four females) with normal pancreas and kidney graft function for more than 15 yr were included. Patient age at the time of transplantation was 35.8 +/- 6.9, with a duration of diabetes of 19.0 +/- 4.6 yr and time on dialysis of 18.7 +/- 12.4 months. In all the cases, bladder derivation was performed to drain exocrine secretion, with subsequent conversion to the intestinal tract in 42% of the patients.
